Who: Bach Aria Soloists
What: Library Series Concert at the Truman Forum
When: Saturday, October 11, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Kansas City Library – Plaza branch, 4801 Main, Kansas City, MO
The Bach Aria Soloists are one of the best-keep secrets in town, but shouldn’t be. This outstanding ensemble put together by violinist Elizabeth Suh Lane performs Baroque and other works in intimate settings with unsurpassed musicality. Many of their concerts are in private homes, but here is your chance to hear the group in a public venue.
In this free concert, the Soloists will perform Bach’s joyous aria from Cantata 145, the “Hallelujah” of Bach’s Cantata 29, and Bach’s virtuosic Cello Suite No. 2, as well as works by Paganini, Kreisler, Bernstein, Gounod, and Monteverdi. In addition, the group will perform a Geminiani sonata from the Library’s own collection.
The regulars in Elizabeth Suh Lane’s group are cellist Matthew Johnson, harpsichordist-organist Jan Kraybill (of Community of Christ organ fame), soprano Rebecca Lloyd, and mezzo-soprano Un Chong Christopher. This performance will feature guest artists Beau Bledsoe, guitar, Kansas City Chorale tenor David Adams (he has also performed at the Metropolitan Opera), and Allen Probus, who plays cello with the Kansas City Symphony.
As if that weren’t enough, the group often serves refreshments after their concerts. Great music and free food! So what could be better?
The performance is free, but reservations are required by contacting the Plaza Library at 816.701.3407 to reserve seats. Please call at least 24 hours in advance.
