Renowned Bach scholar explains how Bach’s music and the passion it evokes are transcendent and universal.
BACH & LOVE
7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11
Kansas City Public Library Central Branch
When J. S. Bach wrote about love in his choral works, he wrote about theological love, but it is easily transferrable to the soulful love we all experience. Renowned Bach scholar Markus Rathey, professor at the Yale School of Music and Yale Institute of Sacred Music, will explain how Bach’s music and the passion it evokes are transcendent and universal.
Hannah Collins, assistant professor of cello at the University of Kansas, makes her debut with the ensemble. This is the second of this season’s free concerts and continues Bach Aria Soloists’ longtime partnership with the Kansas City Public Library.
Program Highlights: Vocal and instrumental masterworks by J.S. Bach with commentary by Dr. Markus Rathey.
