Young Students Inspired & Engaged with BachReach

BachReach inspires students with fun, dynamic programming. It’s not often that a gym full of elementary students sit mesmerized, but that’s what happens when BAS takes its BachReach program into area schools.

And thanks to generous underwriters, BachReach entertained nearly 2,300 students last year in this free-to-schools program.

This dynamic program introduces students to Bach, Baroque and contemporary music in fun, accessible and highly-interactive sessions. We heard this recently from a Lee’s Summit West High School Orchestra teacher: “Fantastic demonstration of bowing techniques! Great rapport with students.”

Dancing, acting, clapping – and talking – are highly encouraged in these sessions.  It’s no wonder teachers say their students are engaged for the entire BachReach. Barbara Warady, former President of Kansas Alliance for the Arts in Education observed: “To watch how much the children loved it and were engaged…I was so impressed how they could relate it back to the students….”

BachReach brings a range of programs to schools, from the retelling of the heartwarming classic Ferdinand the Bull to a lively lesson in Tango or a spirited lesson in Shakespeare set to Bach, Vivaldi and Monteverdi.

BAS’ Artistic Director and violinist Elizabeth Suh Lane, vocalist Sarah Tannehill Anderson and cellist Hannah Collins bring their incredible joy and passion to schools, giving students a rare chance to enjoy world-renowned orchestral and vocal talent.

In addition to the BachReach programs, Bach Aria Soloists conducts master classes and orchestral clinics, inspiring high school students and teachers as they prepare for competitions. “Elizabeth is a world-class musician and teacher. She is the best clinician for our students. We are lucky to have her.” Blue Valley North High School Orchestra Stephen Phalp.
