Bach Aria Soloists’ Celebrating Women will honor extraordinary women composers throughout history, including Kansas City’s Chen Yi, Reena Esmail of India, Cecilia McDowall of England, and their esteemed predecessors.

Bach Aria Soloists, the adventurous chamber music leader in the region, continues its 19th concert season with an intriguing program of all women composers from the Middle Ages through each era to today, performed by Bach Aria Soloists’ all-female ensemble.

12th c abbess Hildegard von Bingen; quintessential Baroque muse Barbara Strozzi; Romantic supernovas Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn; living composers Cecilia McDowall, Chen Yi and Reena Esmail will all be featured in Celebrating Women.

“What a fascinating discovery of superior creativity our audience will get to experience in February with Bach Aria Soloists’ homage to these trailblazing artists,” exclaimed Artistic Director-Founder-Violinist Elizabeth Suh Lane. “I am anxious to share our exploration of these extraordinary women by women.”

Bach Aria Soloists’ Pianist-Harpsichordist Elisa Williams Bickers shared, “Talented women are everywhere: leading industries, making laws, inspiring hearts toward a brighter future. It’s an honor to perform music by women, because for a long time, that population was undervalued. Well, no more.”
