This joyous Spring finale to BAS' 24th Concert Season includes JS Bach's organ masterpiece Piece d'Orgue featuring BAS' organist/harpsichordist Elisa Williams Bickers, and the great sonatas from Beethoven, Mozart and Brahms. Join us for an evening of fierce women in music and painting. Just as Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi chose to tell the story of the brave Judith, period composers Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Barbara Strozzi, and Hildegard von Bingen also drew inspiration from women throughout history, immortalizing their stories in music.

Performed by Bach Aria Soloists: Founder/Artistic Director Elizabeth Suh Lane, Soprano Sarah Tannehill Anderson, Harpsichord Elisa Williams Bickers and featuring commentary by the senior Curator of European Arts Aimee Marcereau DeGalan, this evening will unite music and painting and celebrate the drama and splendor of the Baroque.

These unprecedented times have helped us to realize the importance of adapting to the current health crisis. Bach Aria Soloists has risen to the challenge of finding alternative ways to bring chamber music to you. The safety of you and our musicians is of utmost importance to us. We created Virtual House Music Experiments at home when safety regulations demanded; outdoor Neighborhood Concerts in summer to bring chamber music safely to our friends while employing our musicians.

This fluid situation can change from week to week. BAS has carefully considered our upcoming 2020-2021 Hybrid Concert series during the pandemic. We are committed to delivering dynamic, yet safe performances OUTDOORS, in HUGE indoor venues that adhere to appropriate safety guidelines, or, as a VIRTUAL Concert that you can enjoy from your home.

Don’t be fooled by the name, the Bach Aria Soloists do a lot more than just Bach (but they do Bach really well!). Bach Aria Soloists honors these extraordinary composers with an intriguing program from the Middle Ages through today, performed by BAS’ all-female ensemble. 12th c. abbess Hildegard von Bingen; Baroque muse Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre; Romantic American composer Amy Beach; and African-American composers Florence Price and Jessie Montgomery = Women Power.
